The future is not yet written.

It's what is going to happen in a future Now. A democrat will be elected the next US president and start repairing all the damage the GOP has done to our country. Iran will sit down for talks with the US and the European nations and will eventually freeze its uranium enrichment programs. The 'insurgent' activity in Iraq will continue to intensify until someone sends over good FBI profilers to hunt down the psychos that Saddam let loose from his prisons prior to the US invasion, ushering in a new tool for the Intelligence Community to use. Another bad hurricane season will occur and part of the American coastline will be hit. Polar ice will continue to melt, weakening the Atlantic Current, causing more salty water to sink, reducing the CO2 transfer, and climates around the world will see a greater acceleration of change. The US will ignore Canada's plea to not militarize space, launch weapons into orbit, destroy an asteroid on a collision course and be hailed as Earths' Savior. The Beast will be let loose from the Bottomless Pit, meaning that one of the underground cities of lizard people will begin to interact openly with several nations of the world. Non-Terran contact will expand into open social exchange and the TV talk shows will be interviewing aliens for months and months. Jerry Springer will lobby for the job of World Ambassador, but some MIT guy will get it. There will continue to be violence, blood-shed, and terror in the Middle East, much like there has been since the Dawn of Time. Several European nations will begin to flood and sink beneath the waves. Brazil will finally get its act together and become a world power. The English will finally spring their 200+ year old plan and invade and occupy Boston and much of the Eastern Seaboard. China will have a manned moonbase, begin a tourism program, sell moon rocks to universities across the globe, and try a mining program. Since the mining program is run by the central Chinese authority, and not some corrupt local official, the program is clean, safe, and free of worry. Until they discover that the moon is an artificial structure put into orbit by unknown beings. One lizard people city will claim to own the moon, but be unable to secure their ancient property. They will sue the Chinese and be ignored by them. Oral Roberts will confess, on his death bed, that he was an Odinist all along. The Catholic Church will publically apologize for the Inquisition, release the secret Fatima documents and all the other secret documents and 'close shop'. This will cause bewilderment until people learn that the Vatican has been moved to the moon.

I try to think of now, it is more important. The past has gone, nothing can change what has happened. The future is not worth worrying about. it may never happen

Short range: Great!
Long range: Lots of death and destruction and a lot of atheists saying "I was only kidding, Lord!"
