I now live in the UK. It is a PC purchased in the US. We removed the power supply thinking we could just swap it out. We're now running it using a step down transformer with the original power supply. Any help would be appreciated.

First off, most computer power supplies are dual voltage. You should see a switch on the back of the power supply. Set that to 240 volts and you should be fine.
Why did you remove the hard drive? Did you have 2 drives before? If so you will need to go into your BIOS and remove the second drive. Outside of that, what does the error that requests you to hit F1 or F2 say exactly? Without knowing why it is asking you to do that no one will know what the problem is.

I would not recommend using a transformer on electronic equipment. The fluctuations could cause unexpected results.
I blew up my US stereo years ago when I brought to the UK and used a transformer.

Is there not a voltage switch on your power supply to go from 110 to 240??. Well obviously not in your case but it was common at one time.

Why can't you just swap P/S.
£20 and ten minutes will do it.
If you cannot just swap P/S then maybe you will have to change the motherboard.

Power supplies need to be 100% reliable.
The whole system depends upon it.

Sorry for stating the obvious. :o)

you must boot up and then press del to enter setup and then you must go to cmos settings, and where it has master ide you must set it to auto, that will then automatically recognize your hard drive when you save and exit setup
make sure that your hard drive jumper is set to master
if you decide to add a second hard drive you must set it to slave and then do the same in cmos
if possible ,check your motherboard manual but this task is very easy, even for beginners
whatever you do,do not try replacing any cmos batteries like in one of the other answers, this is unnessecary and could damage your computer

I bet if you flip your jumper cable thats connected to your hard drive, it will solve your problem. remember that the red stripe should be on the "right" side.. the same as the red wire on your power connector. good luck

Maybe it's the motherboard's battery problem, try replacing it.
