The solar wind streams off of the Sun in all directions at speeds of about 400 km/s (about 1 million miles per hour). The source of the solar wind is the Sun's hot corona. The temperature of the corona is so high that the Sun's gravity cannot hold on to it. Although we understand why this happens we do not understand the details about how and where the coronal gases are accelerated to these high velocities. This question is related to the question of coronal heating.

It's an electric current from the Sun. This is why the Auroras take place on our magnetic poles when there is a strong solar wind or more often a solar flare.
This explains why the Sun rotates faster at its equator, because this is where all the major electric discharges to the planets takes place. Sunspots are thought to be created by magnetic fields, and this is true. But what's a magnetic field without an electric current?
Read up on this article, and even check out the whole site. It's awesome:

It explains a lot of the things we supposedly don't understand about the Sun, like the penumbra inside the walls of sunspots. The Sun is electrified!

It is a flow of solar particles and radiation ejected from the surface of the sun. It causes fluctuations in the earth's atmosphere. It also causes the Northern Lights. If strong enough it can disrupt radio transmissions and cause power failures in mass power grids.
Some scientists believe we can develop a solar sail to take advantage of the solar wind in a similar way that a boat's sale uses air currents.
