Is it a programme which I do not have?

Might be might also be that your email program blocked access to it..you need to check your email account settings...if you have an IT person call them

Or it might possbiily be an antivirus warning that it could not open it because it detected a flase something and a red flag went up and blocked access to it

is it from someone you know?

if it is not then Personally I would dump it just to be safe

Try using a different program to check the email.

It may be, also, that the picture is a broken link, meaning that it's referring to a picture that isn't hosted on the website it is supposed to be on anymore... like it was sort of 'given bad directions and couldn't find the picture where it was supposed to be'.

sounds like perhaps your browser doesn't support the document. Try one of your other browsers to see if that makes a difference.
