A 'Chikegg' was the first thing which evolved from 'chickering animalystasis' a sea animal and then it divided into two giving out a chicken and an egg

Two options;
1) We go with the bible. Then it is the chicken. Babies came later so we can assume also the eggs.

2) Evolution. We had eggs way before there were any chickens. There was an egg that produced the first chicken but it's mom was not. Egg first.

The last answer would be different if the question was about chickeneggs. A chickenegg is an egg from a chicken. Just a plain egg can be one of any bird.

The egg. Because during evolution from whatever a chicken was before the species of chicken was produced eggs were still the reproductive method of the animal.

If this doesn't make sense: Along time ago there was an animal like a chicken, it wasn't actually a chicken, it had a slightly different genetic structure. Then through evolution due to mutations of the animals genetic structure the animal became a chicken. Between each step of this from generation to generation the egg wqs used to carry the phetos, simple really

That depends on what you believe…
If you believe the bible then it was the chicken, God created the animals not the egg of an animal.
If you believe in big bang and evolution then the egg came long before the chicken ever did!

The chicken because the egg can not survive without incubation from the chicken ,but the chicken can survive without the egg.

I'm gonna say the egg. The chicken is probably a hybrid of two different types of birds that got frisky at some point. When the byproduct of this poultry love fest hatched it was a new species...the chicken!

I agree with Laruen S, though I like Joe King's alternate view!
However if you'd asked which came first the chicken or the chicken-egg, then it must have been the chicken.

The egg came with the fish. one of which evolved in to land animals. one of which evolved in to dinosaurs, one of which evolved in to birdsk, one of which evolved in to chickens,

So the egg came first by a long, long way.

But first chicken came 26 weeks before the first chicken egg. The first chicken was a mutated version of its parents, which were not chickens
