USA has 3 branches of government. Executive, Legislative and Judicial.
Although it only occurs rarely. There is one party in control of the President (Executive branch) of government as well as the Congress (Legislative branch) It is the Republican Party.

The main parties in the USA are Republican and Democratic.

The USA is a Union of 50 quite independent states. Each State has a similar hierarchy to the model of the Federal government, The Governor is the head of the State (Executive) alongside a Legislative and Judicial branch

In the Legislative branch there are two "houses" the Representatives, and the Senators. The Representatives introduce bills, debate them and vote on them. They they pass the bill on to the Senate, which debates and votes, then passes it on to the President who either signs it into law or vetoes. he Legislative branch can override a Presidential veto if they have a 2/3 majority that wants to do this.

By the way pgmetassan ... Thankfully, America is not and never was a Democracy. It is a Republic.

Abraham Lincon preached democracy - a government for the people. But that's only history. Now democracy is being abused as USA feels she is the most powerful nation on earth. Don't ever forget that history repeats itself. USSR, Roman Empire, British Empire. Where are they now?
