Many people fear the future for the same reason they fear kidnapping, death, or even the darkest depths of the oceans — because it is unknown. The future holds any number of terrible deaths, technological or natural cataclysmic disasters, or worse.

However, the same has probably always been true. The future has always been a big question mark in peoples' minds, and question marks often equal fear or apprehension.

My philosophy is a simple one, and I'm hardly the first person to think this way: Plan for the future, but live for today. I could get struck down by a bus tomorrow afternoon, but I am likely to be just fine. In 60 years when I'm ready to die, luck willing, I would like to look back on my life and reflect on the things I enjoyed and did, rather than the endless days filled with fear for the next day. And if I do get hit by a bus tomorrow afternoon? I'd rather spend the next 24 hours living my last moments in happiness, instead of fearing something I have no control over.

Life is too short and precious for fear. I hope my simple philosophy helps answer your complex question.

I am deeply concerned about the future. I also believe that anyone who isn't should re-evaluate their thinking and the way in which they live their lives. Since the beginning of mankind the vast majority of humans have lived life unafraid of the future. They have plundered this planet's resources, hardly even considering the future ramifications of their actions, and have left the future (us) with their mess. Yet still today, we have come little farther. We still abuse the earth even though we now understand the irreversible damage we are causing. We still plunder and destroy and poison our only planet. We do all this still, unafraid of the future. True, by the time we've polluted the planet enough to make it uninhabitable most, if not all of us will have died of old age, passing the buck one more time. I suppose that means that in reality it's not us who should be afraid of the future, it's the future that should be afraid of us.

The thing is, if I were to spend my time being afraid of the future, I would not have time to actually *build* one for myself. If you worry all the time, you will not be able to enjoy the present and do things that will actually help you to have a bright future. Besides, since nobody knows exactly how much longer they have to live, what is the point of worrying about something that might not even happen?

Yes, I am afraid of the future. The present is uncomfortable enough living with myself. The future, if things keep going the way they are, is going to be so bad I don't know if I want to live anymore. I'm alone, even when I'm with people I feel alone. I have no reason to go make a life when I get no pleasure from it. Nothing makes me happy anymore. Life is only pain.

Being afraid of the future is stupid. There is nothing that you can do about it and if you sit around and worry about it all of the time, then you are ruining the present moment for yourself. Everything happens for a reason and everything works out somehow. Its not always the best and its not always the worst. The worst thing that you could do to yourself is sit around and worry about something that hasn't even happened yet.

No. It's all about being prepared. If you are prepared for the future with a good education; getting a job will be easier than not being prepared with a good education. Saving for a rainy day is a good way to prepare for any unforseeable job loss you may face. That way you won't have to stress about not having money and able to focus on getting another job. Being prepared for an emergency is another example - the more prepared you are, the better you'll be able to handle any event that comes your way!

Even if you are afraid of the future, I think that there's no reason to get freaked out over it, because something will happen no matter what, and you can't really prevent something inevitable.
I'm not afraid of the future, because I know that I have made the choices that felt most comfortable to me, and that no matter what I did that wasn't good, there's no way to change that and change how it will affect my life. So, in other words, no.

I am not afraid of the future. I am taking it a day at a time. I do not make grand plans but I make sure that I live each day to the fullest and that I prepare for each new coming day the best way I can do so now. The future can be taunting but knowing that it just happens a day at a time, makes me it easier to handle. :)

There is hardly anybody who is not afraid of failure. If fear of failure is not there, people may not try for perfection. I do have my share of failure-fear, as I am a scientist who is trying hard to find out solutions to certain problems. I do not take undue risk; but at the same time I take calculative risks, where I am able to estimate the probability of success at least to some extent. If I am unable to estimate this, I shall be fool hardy to take undue risks, which have high probability of ending up in failure.

No, I'm not afraid of the future. I control the things I can and those I cannot, I deal with. The future will unfold, with or without me. The universe is too vast and life to too complex to know from whence it comes or whence it goes. I can but contend with what is before me. What is upon my very small plate.
