Day consist of 24 hrs. First 12 hrs AM and next 12 hrs PM. Our watch shows only 12 hrs. This is due to differentiate the morning and evening or day and night. so from midnight 1 to noon 12 we say it as AM and from noon 1 to midnight 12 we say as PM.
“AM” stands for the Latin phrase Ante Meridiem —which means “before noon”—and “PM” stands for Post Meridiem : “after noon"
AM and PM - What is Noon and Midnight?
-----------------------------------------------------
AM and PM start immediately after Midnight and Noon (Midday) respectively.
This means that 00:00 AM or 00:00 PM (or 12:00 AM and 12:00 PM) have no meaning.
Every day starts precisely at midnight and AM starts immediately after that point in time e.g. 00:00:01 AM (see also leap seconds)
To avoid confusion timetables, when scheduling around midnight, prefer to use either 23:59 or 00:01 to avoid confusion as to which day is being referred to.
It is after Noon that PM starts e.g. 00:00:01 PM (12:00:01)

We say AM for the hours between 12 midnight and 11:59 in the morning. PM for 12 noon and 11:59 at night.
When you use the 24 hour format 14:00 you do not use am or pm. When using this format 0100 = 1:00 a.m., 0500 = 5:00 am.
1200 = noon, 1400 = 2:00 pm, 2000 = 8:00 pm and 2400 = midnight

The A in am stands for anno, the latin term for before
The P in pm stands for post, the latin term for after
These are references to before and after midday ( noon)
1400 is the equivalent of 2:00pm on a 24 hour clock, starting at midnight as 0000

1400 hours is 2.00 PM. The 24 hour clock just continues counting and doesn't stop like the 12-hour one (eg. on the 12-hour system you say 11.00 AM and then 1.00 PM, but, in the 14-hour system you say 11.00 and then 13.00.)
Does this Help?
