Make me rich and I'll let you know! I don't think it's possible to be "too rich"...it's like saying someone is "too handsome".
People who complain about having too much money have no idea what it's like to have none.
Before being placed in my first of several foster homes (at age 9), I got used to eating whatever my dad could catch or whatever his common-law wife could steal from the packing plant. I remember when we saved the bones of the animal because you might need to make soup from them for the next couple days.
Granted that was a long time ago, but it taught me the value of a dollar...and if there is a downside to having lots of them, I can't see if. If I had more money than I could spend on my family, I would find ways to help those less fortunate.
If I were to win the lottery, I would secure my family's future, first and foremost, then I'd find out how to set up a charitable trust so that Crabsody could take in all the strays she could handle without burdening herself too much.
Bottom line, in my humble opinion, the "downside" of being too rich is that the people who have the money don't know how to spread it around so it does the most good!

A lot (NOT all) of rich people are not rich because they are talented, but because they want money. This naturally makes them more self-absorbent and greedy.
I have always been poor. Sometimes, I lived day to day wondering where my next meal would come from. It makes you humble and thankful that you even have "a quality" of life.
Rich people tend to divorce more and have more family problems. I would love to be a millionaire, but if it meant not having love, I would give it away in a heartbeat.
All that money tends to spoil people, too.
I know that alot of rich people are greedy but simple analysis of society. Check this out. In corporate America, approx. 10% of all the workers make 90% of all the wages. These workers are the upper management. Look at all the pay cuts, benefit cuts, downsizing, and "empowerment" that is going on. And yet, it keeps getting WORSE. None of these upper management people are the ones taking the "cuts".
So think of it like this: instead of cutting workforces and expecting the blue-collar guy to work more for less wages, why don't the upper management take pay cuts themselves????? Because they are GREEDY, plain and simple. See, why does an upper management guy have to get $50 mil a year when he could get $5 mil a year? I don't care HOW big the corporation is, NOBODY is worth $50 mil a year. Just think, you could actually give a bunch of people raises, hire some MORE workers AND cut the price of the product. This 1) creates jobs, 2) increases earnings, 3) decreases job related stress because of fewer worker responsibilities, 4) creates better loyalty, 5) keeps workers there longer because of good health benefits, 6) boosts economy because people will spend less on their product and make more working there. So why don't upper management take cuts? You decide.
Of course, not ALL rich people are greedy. But, I have observed that most are.
Blessings
Jon

1. Not knowing who your real friends are.
2. Not knowing if he loves you because of you.
3. Being misunderstood and thinking that you have screwed people or cheated the system to get there.
4. Having people look down their nose at you because you don't "work" for a living and have it made, so how could you have had any pain or struggles in your life.
5. You have so why don't you give to others attitude, like it is a responsibility to give your hard earned money to those that don't have it.
Gosh, there are lots of things. The biggest is not knowing who is real or not.
Of course I am not speaking from person experience. :)

I think if you stay reasonably grounded, you would be able to enjoy life to the fullest. Not many of us can say or do that.
The only problem I see with being rich is the fear most of them have to lose that.
Staying rich can be a burden then.

I have never had the problem personally. The above mentioned miss Hilton though is a perfect example though of a waste of resources. She could have been anything and she chooses to go through life dancing on tables(which isn't horrible but there must be more to life).
Not a great answer is it?

My wife has to stay home with the domestic help. And with no kids to take care of, they tend to get on her nerves! After a full week of THIS going on, Saturday mornings are pretty rough on ME, since my wife complains to me all Friday night. I really look forward to that Red Bull Energy Drink on Saturday morning.

you can become a slacker (not that I'm too rich). When things are too easily obtained you demand less of yourself, and therefore you are poorer in another sense.
