Yes, but love is so much more than just the absence of abuse, it is a wonderful euphoric feeling, a warm good feeling that you feel deep inside of you. A trusting feeling, when you know you can trust yourself with a person mind, body and soul.
If you are being hurt in any way by someone, they do not love you. They may really sound sincere when they apologize, but they will only continue the pattern of hurting you each time you forgive them, and allow them to have another chance. The attacks may increase in violence, and duration without any warning. If someone is hurting you or if they are even verbally abusive to you, it's best to get out of that as soon as you can!
Really there is never a good reason to allow someone to abuse you! Good luck! Love should never have to hurt.

No Love is not the "absense" of anything. Don't try to define something by what it isn't. Apathy is also the absense of abuse, as is Death.
Love is a state of mind, where your happiness is linked to the happiness of the one you love. If he or she is not happy, you cannot be happy. On the other hand, if it makes you happy to see the other person miserable, you don't have love, you have abuse.
There's Infatuation, which is like Puppy Love, not really Love, but an immature reaction to attraction.
Then there's Lust, which can be there even if Love is not, but it's an empty feeling, especially after the lust goes away.
Love is the head, not the groin. Remember, even the best sex only lasts like 3 hours. What are you going to do with that person the OTHER 21 hours a day?

If there is physical or verbal or phycological abuse in a relationship, then love is absent. Love is not about feelings, but about respect and commitment. A loving relationship is a 100% commitment on the part of both parties. Any time that one party or both are not willing to commit 100% to the realtionship, then abuse is present. A person will be committed to you either totally or naot at all. this is the problem with marriage today and why the divorce rate is so high---lack of commitment. I see it all the time in my profession. Both parties to a relationship have to be willing to give up their personal rights in favort of making the relationship work. Any selfishness, and abuse will surface. In the Bible, God says that two are to become one in marriage.
