Lived in Germany for 3 years and didn't like it even though I could read and speak the language. I thought the German people tended to be snobby and unappreciative of Americans. They are even more so now. Their dogs pooped all over the sidewalks and they didn't clean it up. My ancestry is German also. About the only things I miss from Germany are:church bells, half-timber houses, white lace curtains and watching the swans on the river.

I totally loved Germany. England haven't been to as much. Berlin has got to be one of my fav cities in the world. But if you go to Germany make sure you go to Wuppertal (near Cologne/Bonn) and ride the Schwebebahn. http://schwebebahn.com/ It's freggin awesome.
