My rent check got stolen from my landlord's office. Do I still have to write them another check or is it their loss because they were careless?

My rent check got stolen from my landlord's office. Do I still have to write them another check or is it their loss because they were careless? I don't have much proof that I dropped it in the rent box other than I filed a police report (wouldn't lie about that) and I wasn't the only victim (about 25 other checks were stolen). How do I get my landlord to pay the stop fee?

Still have to pay it....but they should not charge you late fees. Do you have proof that you paid -- like a receipt?? Or just drop it in the rent box??

Hey Kat, u cannot walk away like this, u have to write a new check but carefully put stop on the earlier one and also get it confirmed frm ur bank whether it is not debited already.

What else u can do is, u can deduct the stop payment charges levied on u by ur bank frm the new chq to be issued to ur landlord, b'coz u r not liable to bear that penalty.
