Need ideas for a surprise sixties theme party?

Our family want to give my sister a surprise party. She has always liked the decade of the sixties, so we want to do a sixties theme party. We need inexpensive ideas we could use to make this a specail day for her. Anyone tried this before? What did you do?

What fun! By sixties, do you mean Mod? The site below has wealth of info and links that you can use. Start by making sure that you have a lot of the music playing throughout the party, there's a CD called Top Hits of the 60s and also Dance Hits of the 60s. Have a dance area to do the Twist, Watusi, Monkey and the Pony. Instructions are also on this site. You can also have videos of mod film or tv classics running as well, and have copies of magazine covers,record albums, pop art/op art for decor.

The really important thing is to make sure everyone is dressed up Mod style--teased hair, white lipstick and dark eyeliner, miniskirts and gogo boots for the Women, Men in full Austin Powers regalia! Instead of party hats you could have a few beehive wigs. You can also find a lot of props, accessories, clothes at thrift stores--they can be part of your sisters collection when the party is over.

Think colorful vinyl or plastic, fake fur in neon colors, black and white geometrics, etc....and don't forget to have loads of cameras handy!
