1. It can kill you.
2. It stinks.
3. It's an expensive habit.
4. It stains your teeth and fingers.
5. It can cause your skin to age prematurely.
6. It can cause respiratory problems.
7. It's not cool. Hell, some people might think you're trashy if they see you smoking.
Is that enough? I'm a former smoker and know it's a sh*tty habit to have. The earlier someone quits the better. Good luck!

I was smoking 3 packs a day. Then my lung collapsed.Nothing like being in the hospital with a chest tube in, for 2 weeks.
Needless to say, I don';t smoke anymore, nor will I ever smoke again. It really stinks

Tell them you'll take them on a vacation if they don't smoke any cigarettes. Take them on the vacation for about a week and by the time they get back, they won't want to smoke. Make sure you provide them with things to munch on. That's the best way to get through a smoking habit is to find something to occupy your mouth like snacks.

You can't make them quit. They have to choose to do it on their own. The average person who *wants* to quit tries and fails 7 times before they quit for good. I would leave literature- like pamphlets lying around the bathroom, kitchen table, etc. Also, look into smoking cessation classes and see if your health insurance would cover it. My husband is in the process of quitting and the patches have really helped.
Also, remember that once you have a habit, you just can't rid yourself of it. It needs to be replaced with something else- like keeping your hands occupied, or getting that oral fixation. Something else needs to take its place.

You can try any argument you want, from how bad it is for their health to how much it costs them. Just keep this in mind: nicotine is way more addictive than heroin. They will need help to quit (patch, gum, or something stronger) and quitting is just the first hurdle- it is very hard to keep from going back. Be prepared to commit to a lot of help...you are to be admired for trying to help. Good luck!

Well you have to have something to offer this person that is more pleasurable, stress reducing, and readily available than a smoke. Good luck.

it kills u, cancer is more of a possibility, heart disease is more of a possibility, it tastes disgusting, it makes u smell nasty, it makes ur skin like wrinkled dirty leather, it makes u not taste ur food as much cuz it destroys ur taste buds, it makes ur hair and nails frail, it cloggs ur arteries, it can cause blood clots, ciggarettes have an astonishing amount of poisons in them, ciggarette companies put addicitves to make ppl keep wanting them, it makes u crabby if u don't get one cuz ur addicted, second hand smoke kills just as much so they can b killing their families not just them...is that enough reasons?
i think its great that ur trying to help someone with their addiction. that takes a lot of courage and love. u and the one ur fighting for are in my prayers =)

I want to quit, I don't think there is really a good argument that we have not heard yet, lifespan is shorter...
Really, people quit when they are ready not when someone thinks they are. It's also really really hard to give it up (sigh)
