Never Never Never use bleach on a hardwood floor. It will eat away at the finish.
As a house cleaner by trade I recommend about two tablespoons of white vinegar to 4 litres or about a gallon of warm water. Best way is to get down on your hands and knees and use a well wrung out cloth but if you want to use a sponge mop after you mop dry the floor with old towels.

No bleach is not recommended for wood floors. Have I done it? Yes, when I didn't have anything else and wanted to sanitize them. Mine are older floors not those glossy new kind and mine get a lot of kid and pet traffic. BUT this is bad for them and over time would damage them so if you are worried about keeping beautiful pristine hard wood floors, don't do it.. There are better products out there that are made for wood that won't harm it.

Murphy's Oil Soap is one product that you can add to mop water for wood floors and it gives instructions how to dilute it right on the bottle. Most products will clearly state whether it is okay to use them on wood or not.

Ammonia and water or vinegar and water is safer for wood than bleach, I believe, but you might want to research a little bit more to make sure if you want to go that route. I have used those also. LOL I've tried everything since I am asthmatic and many things bother me to use.

Murphys does not have a strong and overpowering scent like many cleaners and of those I am familiar with I would recommend this one first for the care of wood floors.

NO. I tried that once and it ruined the finish, I had to strip, sand, refinish and rewax. If you do not have or do not want to buy a product made specifically for hardwood floors, just damp mop with plain water and dry the floor with a towel, don't let the water sit.

Yes, it is safe as long as you do not put too much bleach and have the water dilute it well. Also, do not do it often. I mop mine with bleach once a month...not everyday.
