I am trying to have an overhead cover to provide sheltered space on my sundeck that I can use whether it rains, shines or snows...Thanks

Sounds like you want a 3-season patio room with screened sidewalls in the summer and glass in the colder months. If that is the case, you need to go with the insulated roof. If you go with an uninsulated aluminum patio cover for a roof, it will literally rain inside the room when it is cold outside. Even unheated, the sun will heat the inside of the room to the point that the humidity in the air will condense on the underside of the cold metal roof and form into droplets. It will render the room unusable in all but the warm months.

The single ply aluminum patio cover will be cheaper but the insulated cover is the only way to go.

Well, the single-ply WOULD be lighter, but then, you lose the insulated value...I guess it`s really personal preference : ) From my heart to yours........................! : )
