My daughter is 4 1/2 months old and sleeps in her swing at night. The swing is not on, it would be like her sleeping in her carseat. If I put her in her crib she wakes up crying several times all night long. When I let her sleep in her swing, she will sleep all night. She was diagnosed with reflux, so I think possibly she is more comfortable in the more upright position. I have even tried a wedge in her crib and she still won't sleep all night. Has anyone else had this same problem? Will I have problems getting her to sleep in her crib when she's too big for her swing?

Okay, firstly please ignore teh advice to "thicken the feed". It won't work and your daughter is way too young AND doctors advise against putting cereal in bottle, etc. My daughter is 11 months old. She, too, was diagnosed with reflux. The only way she would sleep is in her swing. She still has reflux and although she is on meds, she is still uncomfortable on her back. Hence, she is still in the swing. (She's still within the weight bracket of 25 max.) Anyway, I think of it this way. Who the heck wants to sleep on their back on a hard mattress with no pillow, no toys, no real blanket? My daughter is developing perfectly. She is scooting at light speed and beginning to cruise. She is well rested. Some sleep trainers would call this accidental parenting, but I call it common sense. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she will grow out of her swing around the same time she can use a blanket and small pillow. I've talked to people in similar situations and they say everything just falls into place. So, know that you are doing what is best for your daughter (ie, allowing her to sleep comfortably) and don't worry about what people say. Oh, by the way, I could not to save my life get my daughter to sleep in one of those mattress harnesses. They are insane!! Even with meds, reflux is very painful. Oh, yes, we tried a crib wedge and my daughter kept rolling off of it. Good luck!

I don't think your baby sleeping in her swing is a problem. My son also has reflux and his Pediatric Gastroenterologist suggested that we let him sleep in a carseat with the straps removed padded with a blanket, (not a fluffy one though). My son also started sleeping basically through the night once we started the carseat routine. As long as the harness is secure I don't think she's actually in danger of falling out. I will say though, my son is 8 mos old now and we started placing him in his bed about a month ago, and he stopped sleeping trogh the night, initially waking up often. when we put him down he immediately flung his legs up in the air, into the position he would have been if placed into the seat. In the last week he has started sleeping basically through the night!!! So again- I believe based on my dr's suggestions and personal experience- that it is ok for you to let your daughter sleep in her swing especially if everyone is benefitting from it!! Take care!!

My son is 3 months old. He was dx with severe acid reflux at 3 weeks old. He's now just only taking Prevacid and doing great! . He was on 3 other meds that just didn't work for him. My husband and I went through hell the first month. He would vomit, choke and cry all night. He would even have moments when he would almost stop breathing on us. We started him off after his dx in his car seat. He did sleep in that for about a month and 1/2. I noticed he would squirm around a lot in the car seat and he just looked so uncomfortable to me. I hated it! I later tried the regular swing and bouncy seat that was not much help either. I've spent lots of money buying products to help my son and I found that the Fisher Price (papasan swing) cradle/swing was the best for him. The first night I purchased the swing it was like GOLD to us. He LOVED it and he slept without moving one bit. It plays music and it rocks like a cradle or a swing. He slept in that for about 3 weeks and then one day he woke up for his 2am feeding and decided that he wasn't going to eat. He went back to sleep in our bed (laying on his back). He has been doing that ever since he's 3 months old. The doctors told us that he wouldn't be able to sleep laying down until a year. Try that swing, it's a great product and it's so worth it. Let your child be comfortable after all she's been through. You'll be very pleased, I promise you! Good Luck and God Bless. I hope it works out for you. :)

I have the SAME issue with my 4 1/2 month old daughter!!! She will only sleep in the swing...we have the fisher price ocean wonders aquarium swing - so it reclines a bit - but its like a carseat, like you said...and my daughter will also sleep in it off, but wont sleep in that darn crib to save her life! She is probably more comfortable being upright because of the reflux. I wouldnt worry about it. I have heard that once they get more active, can roll over, etc...they dont want to be in the swing anymore. I am hoping for this! Good luck!

Just like the others said, as long as your little one is reclined in the swing that is fine. Also, yes, it is fine for your baby to be in the pack'n'play w/o the bassinet. The bassinet is only there to make life easier for you, *lol*. You just have to be very careful when putting your daughter down, don't move too quickly, or set her in too hard, she might wake up. Good luck, and have fun!

my son was a preemie, so he suffered from terrible reflux. i also used to keep him upright for much of the time, although i would not start a bad habit by allowing her to stay in the swing, and rather putitng her upright in her crib. I also used to hold him upright for at least half an hour after a feed (and yes, i have forgotten how to sleep :)). if the reflux is really bad, you can explore options of thikening the feed, if you are bottle feeding. the doctor should be able to help you. if you do decide to thicken the feeds, do make sure that she has liquids at least daily- to help excersize the talking muscles...

my 4 month old still kinda has this problem,i let him sleep in the car seat, but only when i go to sleep,so hes not in there for that long.i lay him on his side, not his back cuz i am afraid he will choke again.i had to call 911.i find he sleeps much better in the car seat, maybe cuz theres less room in there and he feels more swaddled.I'm not worried about the bad habit,I'm worried about keeping my son around.he to will sleep all nite in the car seat if given the chance.good luck.do what works 4 you.

well i was all set to tell you that you are creating quite the bad habit, because you absolutely will have problems getting her to sleep in the crib when that time comes. BUT the acid reflux is very painful and I bet it is more comfortable for her to be upright... I tried the wedge in the crib for my daughter but it never worked... have you tried Zantac? It helped my daughter (she had to start that at 2 weeks )..ask your doctor
