I truly believe that it is neither "left" nor "right" nor neutral. I don't believe in such categories. Everything we believe is based on our perspective. For example if you and I were standing still on the north and south poles and a car left from the equator and headed north would the vehicle be going away or getting closer? Of course the answer is based on your position in reference to the vehicle. One may feel like anyone who believes in Abortion is a wacko "lefty" but I know many Pro-Choicer's who would resent and flat out deny that charge and label.
Also if you are asking if the media is leaning more Republican or more Democrat, keep in mind that both parties have shifted their positions over time. For example, it was a largely demo crate movement that called for the segregation of blacks in America during the 1950's. Today, some would say democrats have taken more to the defence of minority rights.
BUT! Alas, if you want to know if, by popular understanding of what "left" and "right" is, I think that both parties would agree that the media always tends to lean more left. Left being the more politically correct way of thinking, not necessarily Liberal or Democrat. Great question though.

"The Media" consists of thousands of individual TV networks and programs, magazines, national and local newspapers, radio stations, and now the internet... each of those news outlets has dozens of different people working on each story or column and even if they are totally unbiased, they all naturally have different ways of approaching ideas.
Can you really believe they all lean in the same direction? There are some unashamedly left leaning organizations. There are some blatantly right leaning organizations. There are many with no outright bias.
It is important to analyze each news source on its own merit, rather than just labelling "The Media..." that's how politics teaches you not to think for yourself.

They make up whatever they think will sell....It is controlled by Ted Turner and he hates anyone who doesn't believe his way...
Never believe 90% of what you read or hear.Notice how the media always spreads only bad news ? Seldom do they have their facts straight...watch CNN Live coverage...within 3 -4 hours, the whole story will change..they put their own facts in to suit them & sell out to commerical sponors.
Notice how they always try to make Bush & the troops look bad..yet NATO is in control of things....
America watched first hand as the Twin Towers were attacked, the flight that was intended for the White House ,even OK City bombing,Ruby Ridge,Waco ,TX massacre(like from Hitler's days for sure !),yet within a few hours the whole story changed.
People watched,on EVERY channel, that 100% of the Congress voted to go to war in Iraq...Now the media blames it all on "America's greed for oil".Funny thing is....Congress is the branch that sends the troops out....yet many Democrats blame Bush & Rumsfield(not that I am a big fan of them)Just a quick brush up on how the US Government REALLY works!!

Yes. Watch how many facts are reported, and how many opinions are presented as facts. NPR is pretty good, Fox is slightly right, most of the rest slightly to wildly left. In my opinion, reporters mostly repeat what they've been "officially" told, hate to dig or confirm, and are generally less entertaining than the guy in the clear eye commercial, and less informative than Fred Flintstone.

ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, most major magazines (Time, US News, etc) and most major newspapers (NY Times, Washington Post and LA Times) all go to the left pretty religously. FOX, Wall Street Journal and talk radio goes to the right just as much.

It's hard not to be leaning left when Bush is in office.
If Bush had a 66% approval rating they'd be leaning right.
