Have we reached the point of no return, where the corruptions that occur in our government have made it impossible for reform? Why or why not (...do you even read the news)?

Yes, because we are letting diversity ruin us. No one cares about making this country a better place to live all they care about is their own personal agendas. We have also been too liberal and compassionate towards every cause under the sun for our own good. We have sadly looked out for everyone but ourselves. We feed people who refuse to work and penalize people who work their behinds off. This isn't " the American dream " it's the American nightmare. We're more worried about offending someone than we are doing what we have to do in order to keep our TAX-PAYING citizens safe. We'd find it less offensive to kill a baby than to chop down a tree. We have sadly become the antithesis of what our forefathers had in mind. America, land of the free-ride and the home of the self-proclaimed victims.

I hear what your're saying. The corruption in government seems to be worse than it has ever been. (And I rembember watergate and vietnam and the national guard killing students on their own campuses, first hand). But at least we still have the right as Americans, to say how much the government sucks, and has no idea how much they are trampling on the very rights this country was founded on. (The Patriot Act - ..... )

Oh, I'm so mad right now I can't even remember what i was going to say. All I can think of is "life, liberty and the pusuit of happiness" and how that is just a pile of sh-t to the current govt.

AAArrrrrghhhh.....

The USA isn't doomed. There will be happy, healthy, well adjusted americans living throughout the country for many generations to come. Corruption is as old as democracy in the US. It's not going away anywhere, so don't worry about it. Just make sure you live true to yourself. Don't hate anyone, because hate just makes you feel bad. Don't hurt anyone. Help out where you can. Smile.

I've been around for over five decades. People have been asking those same questions every year. If you are a democrat you tend to be a pessimist. The democratic party thrives on crises

Yes I read the news. You must be aware that the vast majority of journalists are democrats and most of them only report the news that will make you be upset with the status quo.

I been reading the news for 45 years....
you think curruption is bad.... try living in a place like the Philippines (where I currently live) ha ha ha you ain't seen nothing baby!
The USA is the best...... it has been for decades and for many many generations to come it will remain so... you have nothing to fret over my friend.
Maybe you are hanging with the wrong crowd... try some volenteer work... helping others is a great way to get back some hope and brightness for your own selfworth, outlook on life, and social well being.

Ok maybe I'm an optimist, but I really think we can turn this country around. First of all, we need to stop fighting as liberals or conservatives and start fighting as Americans, wanting to save the country from the toilet. That is going to be the challenge, but once people stop drinking the wacky water (on both sides of the debate) we'll be just fine.

As a former low-level government employee, I say at the present, yes, but things can be reversed with the right actions by the citizens of this great nation. The government, although flawed, has proven potent through times of war, political turmoil, and natural disaster.

I don't like reading the news, it is to depressing. We are not past the point of no return, however. Things can change for the better, if enough like minded, sane people get together, and do something creative and constructive. The future is ours, to make an affirmative difference, is possible, but definitely not easy.

From one of the world's most corrupted countries...

JAKARTA (AFP) - Indonesia's defense minister bluntly warned US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that an overbearing US approach to the war on terrorism has led many in the world to view US power as a threat.

Who said so?
Don't worry everything comes to an end (oppression, tyranny, except of course world hunger and disease and..) Don't dwell on self or national pity, live on!
That 'doom' may happen long after you are dead!
Often people choose politicians, so I guess it is up to the people to rectify the errors and all else.
