I have a student who said he liked me very much....I got scared and messed things up a liitle...was I wrong?

I really don't think a student can fall in love with a teacher unless the teacher allows the student to get too close. It takes more intimate knowledge than the infatuation, puppy love or lust that a student can feel by just having a hot teacher in front of them during class. The teacher needs to have spent time with the student and discuss each other on a level that is inappropriate for a teacher/student relationship. I don't know what you did to mess things up, but I hope it was to discourage any possible relationship with you. There have been too many reports of this sort of thing in the news. Don't ruin your life, reputation and career over this. Good luck.

Although flattering, as an adult, it is your responsibility to use your better judgment in dealing with the situation. It is not unusual for students to have a "crush" on a teacher. It is due to your role in the student's life. For many students, teachers are the only positive role models that they encounter day after day. You were right to confront the situation head on. Things aren't messed up. As a former high school teacher, I applaud your efforts in doing the right thing.

First off student teacher crushes happen a lot. sometimes it is even vice versa. Student/Teacher relantionships undermind everyone that is concerned it cheats the teacher, and all of his/hers students. It is especially damaging if the student involved is underage.
My suggestion: If the student is not underage. Keep him at a distance until he is no longer apart of your class or get him to leave your class period and take another teachers class tha offers the same subject. Why because if I was one of your student I would have reported you in for unfair treatment.

Can a human fall for another human... YES!!!
Although it is unethical to actually have a relationship it is only natural for a person to feel attracted to another...
Whether you did the right thing or not i cannot say as i do not know the exact details, but the best thing to do would be to explain that there could never be anything between you....
