I read in a trivia column in the newspaper that bread spoils faster in the refrigerator. They don't chill it in the stores. But I'm always one to test the theory, so why not do an experiment?

I think your mom has you beat on this one! She is right about keeping the bread in the refridgerator, to keep it fresher longer. The reason is, you know how mold get on bread when it gets old? Well, in the refridgerator, the mold can't grow, so it keeps it fresher longer. The reason why the mold can't grow in the refridgerator, is b/c it is cold.

Mould likes to be in the dark, so it will expire faster in the dark, however I don't think it likes to grow in the cold.....but if this is simply about the light issue, you are correct.

There's only light in the fridge when the door is open. It does stay fresher there. She's right. Sorry.
