Your right, I can't answer this one. I think that there is some missing information. Were any marks given or taken away for correct answers? There is not way to get 100 marks when every incorrect answer is worth 7 marks and no marks are given for unanswered and correct answers.

14 wrong (7 marks are awarded for each question answered incorrect-you said it yourself)
2 right (assuming a right answer is 1 mark)
4 unanswered (no marks)

Seems like an incomplete equation to me. First of all, 7 won't go into 100 evenly. And in regards to it being incomplete, how many marks does the pupil get for a correct answer?

you haven't said whether he gets any marks for getting the question correct, or whether he gets any marks taken away. without that information, unless he gets less than 7 marks for a wrong answer at some point, the question cannot be answered. or, cannot be answered correctly, anyway.

The teacher must have given him partial credit on one of the problems.

hey- i just answered your question, and you thought i couldn't.
and if my answer is wrong, i still answered the question. you said nothing about if the answer had to be correct.
