I think it's funny that so many people are opposed to gay marriage because it will "ruin the sanctity of marriage" when the divorce rate is nearly 70%. Even our former president cheated on his wife in the oval office!! Anyone should be allowed to marry if they so choose. Besides, if our economy needs help, what would be better than thousands of lavish gay ceremonies? This world would be so much better if everyone was less judgmental.

we are a democracy, so the government officials are supposedly representatives of the people. government officials essentially decide everything, and i don't see this being any different. they have to make some desicion on it because it can never be leagalized if they don't and it will always be an issue. whether or not it interferes with the separation of church and state... the US was founded by a lot of christians.... there's not a whole lot that anyone can do to keep some religious intolerance from swaying some people's desicion. however, i think the issue deals more with left right than religous beliefs

Our government was set up to make and carry out the laws of our country. We fought hard for the right to set us this government.
I support, and defend our rights as Americans.
But a law such as this would be against the very ideals we fought for. Freedom to say what we want. Freedom to live our lives . Freedom to believe how we choose to believe. As we see fit. This law will take these things away. It's hateful and cruel, an insult to everyone as Americans we should see that even if we are selves don't agree with a gay marriage. We still don't have the right to tell people how to live their lives.
I was looking over some of the other answers given and it makes me angry that just like our president many couldn't give one good comment, that supports this law that doesn't use religion as the main point in their decision.
I saw one answer that pointed out that civil union would be ok, but guess what that will be next.

The constitution was never meant to take rights away from the people. Religious views should not be mixed in with government affairs. This decision should be made by the individual.

I think that the government has no right to tell people how they should live their personal lives. And I do agree that the government bases many of their decisions on religion, which should be illegal.

Yes. Because the government, namely the IRS, needs to know the filing status of every citizen so that we could all be taxed properly.
