my friend recently got into an argument with her husband. The husband began getting physical, and before she knew it, she was being choked and beaten while her 12 year old son watched helplessly. When she told me that he had hit her, I immediately called the crisis center and got an appointment with the abuse prevention officer in the area. Her husbands family is now blaming me because I told her to do what I thought was the right thing. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault and battery with the intent to murder as well as a slew of other charges. How do I deal with the husbands family? I had no choice, and she is the one who pressed charges, not me,

You are a GREAT FRIEND!
She pressed the charges,, YOU HELPED HER FIND HER SELF RESPECT.
I would deal with them with a restraining order!
You owe them no explanation and shame on them for thinking he had the right to hit her PERIOD!! Much less show the son the whole thing!
I would call child services too!

I would suggest you tell them kindly that you did the best thing possible under the circumstances. And if they choose to bother you for whatever reason, make it clear to them that you can very well live with yourself for your actions. Are they able to do the same??? They should be thanking you. But we know that won't happen. I would simply ignore them. If they attemp to harass you, call your local authorities and question your alternatives &/or report them.
