PCI-E or AGP are both standard graphics ports. Your dell will almost certainly have an Advanced Graphics Port. It is long and black. This is the slighly older graphics port, but at this time it makes almost no difference what port you use. PCI-E x16 is the newer graphics port. It runs faster.
A graphics card will not fit in the wrong port. Installing it will be different for each port. Which card do you have? or are you about to buy one?
The installation instructions should come with the card. Simply shut down, pull out the power plug, and open the case. In most dells this is pretty easy to do. Inside you locate the port on the motherboard (the really big board). AGP is long and black, PCI-E is long and white. There are several other ports that can be confused with these, but the card will not fit in them. You simply seat the card firmly in the port. Close up the computer and boot up. It should automatically be detected by the system. There may be a CD with some software included.

what model number dell PC ?? AGP or PCI express 16 ?? you need to buy the correct format, it is very simple remove the old push in the new, if it is a popular model windows should indentify it and load the drivers otherwise use the CD but be prepared to go to the website and download the latest drivers as many cards have updated drivers
