help! I sold like 40 copies of my cd with my own music on it. And the last dude i sold to, told me i better copyright it before i really start selling.

That would be at the US Copyright Office. An application is $30 though it is likely that it will increase to $45 on July 1. See source box for links.

From what I understand, you can do something called a temporary copyright before you get an official one. Just put a dated copyright mark on your product and I believe its good for a year.
As far as getting an official copyright, I'm not positive, but it probably works something like a patent. You might look for a national copyright agency.
