are those surveys real where you answer questions and get paid

The rule, as always, is to stay away from those that ask you to pay before you can get these surveys.

Legitimate market survey companies such as Pinecone Research recruit members based on demographic characteristics -- e.g. mothers of babies 0-12 years old -- and will send surveys of products and services targeting this demographic group. Pinecone Research, however, pays only $5 per survey -- you're definitely not going to be rich with that. They can give you anywhere from 1-5 at most surveys in a month.

Other companies simply ask you to answer as many research as possible, and you don't earn anything just the chance to win at a raffle (which I find lame).

The article "Earning Money from Surveys" provide a short list of legitimate market research firms and contains explanations of what to look for when joining surveys (and weeding out the fraudulent ones)

Very few of them. Most of the ones these days that are actually paid are geared toward IT professionals.

The market has been saturated with people wanting to do surveys for cash, so companies are finding it unnecessary to pay any longer. Instead, most give away an "entry" into a sweepstakes for your time. It's not worth it anymore.

There are a few surveys that really pay you. American Consumer Opinion really sends you checks if you do their survey when they pick you. I think the website is www.acop.com

www.mypoints.com is also a great site where you get points for reading emails, and then redeem them for gift certificates.

These are two I know that work, not sure of others. Good luck!

Some of them are real, but they require you to pay for stuff first. I was interested in doing this and signed up with a company for around $30.00. Then they give you lists of companies that pay you for doing their surveys. You sign up with as many companies as you want to. Then they usually want you to complete offers before you can do the surveys. Like for instance, one AOL survey paid 40 bucks, but you had to sign up for a free trial with them and when the free trial was up, it would automatically start charging you. A lot of those things were like that. They wanted my credit card info first, then said it was for a "free trial," but once the trial came to an end, it would start charging. It was a huge hassle and not worth it to me. But if you want to go through all that, they would actually pay you. It would just take a while.

I tried to join one and by the time you've paid out money to all of their advertisers and joined all of their clubs and what not, you've spent all the money you were trying to make in the first place.

There's no free lunch in this life, holmes.

Well, kind of sort of. You collect points and redeem them for cheesy merchandise. Harris Polls.
