I don't knowif they have these programs everywhere but, here we have a Community development or something. they will come out to your house and fix up to $5000.00 of work if needed. They fix a/c's, appliences, and other major things. You are basically getting a loan that has 0% interest and has to be paid back in 15 years(in FL that is the deal) The County runs it and ours is through the Red Cross.
I just wanted to know if anyone knew what all they would fix? our central a/c is broken and they will be out to look at it but we also need carpet badly. We have had to tear up the carpet(almost 30 yo and torn everywhere) because we couldn't take it. Now we have partial concrete floors and a baby who will be crawling in weeks.
Anyone know what all is covered...............In FL

They are already coming out, today actually, I just really waqnt carpet but that may not be considered an emergency. We really aren't poor but since I have not been working (baby) everything has gone wrong. Bought house with carpet being first thing we would change......that was 6 years ago.

I am in the process of using it. They go first for the "unsafe" things, ie, roof, wiring, cracks in foundation. If they are ok, or needing minimal work, the ask YOU what you would like see done..I said a good coat of paint(my house is a HIDEOUS neon green).I`m SURE your carpet would be a good option if my painting is going to be done! :) Good luck! From my heart to yours! : )

Try looking for a "Community Action Agency"... it may have a local name added to it too... Ours, where we live, is East Missouri Action Agency.

Being on a fixed, low income (SSI disability), we qualified to have them come out, and 'winterize' our home... turns out we had to have a new furnace...the firebox on the old one was cracked. So, they put in the new furnace, installed insulation under the floors, and 'blown in' insulation in the attic. All at no cost.

Look for the group in your area that is doing the work,...if it is thru the Red Cross...then they should be able to tell you what services they offer, or put you in touch with other organizations.

Maybe try calling your county Human Resource office or the Red Cross. With an infant surely someone will help.
