Several factors: 1) voting machines were rigged . In one precinct alone where there were 1800 registered voters over 4,000 votes were cast for Bush. This precincts voting took place in a church. The Secretary of State of Ohio where this took place owns major stock in the company that manufactures the voting machines used, Diebold. His reward, he is now running as the rethuglican party's candidate for governor. 2) The homophobic religious right was gung ho to ban abortion and gay marriage and turned out in record numbers. 3) A lot of people do not like to change Presidents during a war. This happened when FDR was President and he was elected to serve an unprecedented 3 terms.

The answer is actually quite simple. Enough people in the USA like what he is doing, and agree with his stance on important issues to turn out and vote.
You see you will hear and read a lot of very negative comment about Bush, so against that backdrop you scratch your head and think well who voted for him, but the truth is that just because the "anti everything " lobby shout loudly and shout all the time, does not actually mean that they are the majority.....it just means that they shout louder and more often.
You read on here all the time statements about "no-one in america supports the troops in Iraq" ..." no one supports Bush or even voted for him" etc etc, but actually all we are hearing from is a passionate and small, but loud group of people, whereas most people keep their views and opinions to themselves.
To use an abstract example when you find a popular but fairly dumb T.V show (soaps, or big brother etc) you will be hard pressed to find anyone who admits to watching it, but the viewing figures will always be in the millions.
People just want to keep what they do private. In the case of the TV example its because they dont want people to think that they are dumb, and in the case of Bush they probably dont want some anti everything protester picking an agument, so they either say nothing or pretend to agree.
The other reason that Bush got elected last time is beacuse of the complete waste of space that was put up against him. I am guessing that every person in the world with any experience of behavioural psychology or body language shuddered every time Kerry came on the screen. What a lightweight phoney he was.

because American people don't know the rest of the world, they are scared of everything. I spent 2 months alone (and I'm not muslim!) in Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. Nothing wrong happened to me. People were very kind and open, though their life can be difficult. Americans should try to know other peoples instead of rejecting them, so that they wouldn't allow a Bush to spend all the US budget in military violence

Just look at the most popular TV shows, Newspapers etc in the US and the way everything even sport is 'dumbed' down in the name of 'spectacle' and its obvious -the stupified elect the stupid.

As "g" staters above, paranoia probably.
Then too, the personal charm factor shouldn't be discounted. I find the expressive visage so absolutely adorable, I voted twice for him.
Seriously.
