I just wondered if there's anything I can do to get my voice back. I haven't lost it totally, but I definitely can't sing. I have a cold. Should I just call my singing appointment off?
My friends told me I should drink hot tea, will this help? Get back to me soon! I don't have much time!

You could just wait til tomorrow and see how your voice is. Maybe get someone to fill in for you as a back up. Seems like I heard something about olive oil. Try taking
2 or 3 teaspoons of it. It's good for your health anyway. Also, try lemon and honey.
Put it in the yahoo search and see what comes up.
And last but not least PRAY. May I pray for you?

Yes! Listen to Cyanne2ak. She's telling the absolute truth. I am a huge Mariah Carey fan, and when she lost her voice around the time of her cd to debut, she communicated by writing on flash cards. But I did hear that some steam on your throat helps. Not sure if it does though. I sang Kumbaya at the Martin Luther King Festival in the fifth grade and that was the start and the end of my singing career. Best wishes to you.

Hot tea with honey and lemon usually helps. However, when I have had this problem, it usually takes me a couple of days' voice rest to get back to 100%. If you just have a lesson, I would cancel. If you have a performance, that's another story. Good luck - I know how miserable you feel right now!

You should call it off. As a professional singer, I am telling you this because I have more experience than ANYONE else on Yahoo Answers. You should NOT SPEAK or whisper AT ALL for the next 24 hours. Drink plenty of fluids and take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen. Warm liquids will soothe it, but nothing you swallow actually touches your vocal chords at all.

This sounds weird, but it works. Mix some lemon juice, one goody powder, and some salt into a glass of warm water and gargle with it. I don't know the exact measurements, I just guessed at it. It tastes horrible. The warm water opens the pores, the lemon juice cuts through the mucus, the goody powder relieves pain, and the salt dries up the infection. It works, but I don't know if it will be fast enough for you to sing tomorrow.

Yes, call your appointment off for now; you may need some medical care but your voice is responding to your stress of your appointment!Get some rest and quiet.Take care of yourself-each day is a gift.

Hot tea will help, drink lots of fluids to get rid of the germs and stuff. Maybe put some of that gel cough suppressant on your throat and keep it warm.

Gargle with warm salt water. Drink tea or other hot fluids. Use a vaporizer or cool air humidifier in your bedroom.

Pray and get a good nights sleep. The less sleep you get the worse it will be. Drink water, lots of water.
