1. Since y = -x + 3 , 4y = -4x + 12.
3x + 4y = 3x + (-4x) + 12
= -x +12
3x + 4y + x = 12
4x + 4y = 12
(a contradiction) to 3x + 4y = 12 , unless x = 0 , then y = 3.
2. Don't know what you mean.
4. w(idth) = length - 13
2(w+L) = 86
w+L = 43
L-13 +L = 43
2L = 43 + 13 = 56
L = 28
28 - 13 = w = 15
width = 15 ; length = 28.

Why are you doing math during summer? Summer school? awww. Use a calculator.
1) Substitution: Get a variable alone, then plug it in.
2) same as 1
3) N(nickels) + D (dimes)=52
5N(nickels) + 10D(dimes)=4.45
then substitute.
4) Width is given. Ask someone else for the rest.
5) Its too hard to explain without fraction bars
There is a palce for help-- your math teacher. Math teachers usually offer tutoring if you have trouble.
Hope I helped woth your grade. Pass your final!

I would suggest using the substitution method on these questions. Choose one of the variables and put its formula into the other formula and simplify. It should very easy to solve.
