Most of us don't get rich, just comfortable middle class lives in suburbia. But it's a good life if you ask me. To get rich in any field requires talent, hard work, management ability, a good idea and a bit of luck. Engineering will get you a three bedroom house and a decent school district for the kids and you will not starve. Worked for me.

The answer is that you CAN get rich. With experience you can move up the food chain and get a quite good salary. Rough numbers are 35K a year with a bachelor's degree straight out of college. 45K with a few years of experience. 55 with a few more and a masters helps. 80k with a few more years. 100k and above for a management position. This is all rough and changes case to case. I'm sure that there are people who are making even more with years of experience.
