Although the percentages per guest check are higher in fine-dining establishments, a good server can make the same amount of money in a small-town diner or a country buffet if he/she approaches the job with the right skill and right attitude. Many casual dining restaurants ( i.e TGI Fridays, Applebees, Chili's, Outback Steakhouse ) charge the server a 3% tipout ... which means the server has to give the restaurant 3 dollars of every hundred in sales to pay the salaries of the bartenders, hostesses, and bussers. Most privately owned restaurants don't have a tipshare program and therefore the server keeps everything they bring in.

In fine dining, the tip share is exhorbitant because there are so many people on the server's support staff ... people are tipped out for wine service, polishing silverware, resetting tables, etc.

Tipping is a variable that's hard to predict; percentages seem to be higher in the northern states than in the south, and yes ... there is some truth to the fact that certain ethnic groups don't tip as well ( or at all ) due to cultural differences, ignorance of the custom, or plain refusal.

usually, most restaurants that customers tip the most is when the restaurants employees have a good and delightful attitude toward the consumers. Sometimes, money could be in this situation.

You know, that when you go out for Red Lobster, for example, you have a bill, and that you have to pay tax. Due to the amount of your bill determines how much of a tip to give. Sometimes it could be 15% or !0%, just on the decision to the customer.

Sometimes Fancy restaurants have to majority of tip, because on the setting and on how the display of the hosts are. Sometimes if depends on the bill, like previous.

So, there are varieties of answers to choose froms. But mainly, it comes from the customers. There is no right anser, but there is a wrong answers. Wrong answers like that customers tip the most on the based of food. usually i'd tilt that to the "NO" side. need more info. contact violinst3000@yahoo.com.

3Forks.

D-Magazine just ran an article on the Highest Paid individuals in specific professions with in the DFW. There was a person that earned $60k at 3forks. Also try places on Mckinney Avenue, In the Highland Park area. And all of the "Papa's" Restaurants like Papadeauxs, Papacito's etc. Any place also that sells a lot of beer and liquor b/c drinkers tend to tip higher. STAY AWAY from places that the plates are lowpriced.

The Pappa's chains (as mentioned above) do have good track records for high quality of service and medium to high food prices, so they are good places to receive good tips. They also are very particular about there servers which is why the service is consistently above average. (first hand knowledge)

The themed restaurants(magic planet/midevil times) likely have above average tips as these are event nights for most people who dine there so they are in the mood to tip well. (though I donot have first hand knowledge)

Any restuarant that is considered a special place to go eat, will have better than average tips, as special nights people are less stingy with their tip money. Like: Simply Fondue, Melting Pot, Texas De Brazil, Three Forks, The Capital Grill, MIchael Anthony's, Benihana. Type Places.

It all depends on a variety of things. Where you work for one, and the town you work in and the type(s) of people who are coming there to eat. I live in Virginia but I work in another town than where I live because I can make alot more in the other town then I can working in a restaurant where I live.
I work in a place where tourists frequent...so lots of people on vacation spending money left and right. When I worked in the town where I live, I barely made anything because the people who came in were wanting to come in and pay for their meal (if they couldn't get out if it somehow by complaining about it) and not tip. I can gaurantee it wasn't because I provided lousy service either. It had mostly to do with the income level of the town and race, sad but true. I prefer to drive the extra 25-30 minutes away and make about 175% more then I would working closer to where I live. Do your research, there are some places where working at Red Lobster or a fine dining establishment just isnt worth it due to the types of people living in that area, I'd work someplace where they are sure to take care of you...and the people coming to eat there will tip you what you rightfully deserve.

Unless you are at an exclusive restaurant, then the location usually doesn't matter. The waiter/waitress should be very friendly and know their product, but not too pushy. They should always make sure that your order is right and fast without you having to ask where it is, or having to send it back for any reason. They should clean up used dishes very quickly, drinks filled, and conversation to a minimum.

Waiters/waitresses, keep in mind that a group of people that are drinking tip the best right before they get too drunk to remember to tip. So, keep them coming, but bot too fast.
