Obviously, the ratio of boys to girls is 2:3 , or x : 123.

2/3 = x/123 .

x = 2/3 * 123
= 2 * 41
= 82

There are 82 boys. Simplify 82 : 123 and you'll get 2:3.

If the ratio of boys to all students is 2:5 then the ratio of girls to all students is 3:5. You can use this to set up a proportion to figure out the total number of students, lets call this x.
3/5 = 123/ x cross multiply to figure out that 3x = 615. So x = 205. Therefore there are 205 students. If 123 are girls, then 205 - 123 = 82 boys. there are 82 boys.

82

A ratio is a comparison of two numbers. We generally separate the two numbers in the ratio with a colon (:). Suppose we want to write the ratio of 8 and 12. We can write this as 8:12 or as a fraction 8/12, and we say the ratio is eight to twelve.

Let x = number of boys
from the question:
X/(X = 123) = 2/5

The ratio of boys, X, to total students X + 123 is equal to 2/5.

Solve algebraically and determine that there are 82 boys.

ratio of boys to ratio of everybody in the school = 2:5

this can be written as

ratio boys:total students = 2:5

so for every 5 students, there are 2 boys ... and the rest are girls

so for every 5 students there are 2 boys and 3 girls

so 2/5th of all students are boys and 3/5th of all students are girls

now girls = 123,

take total number of studnts in school as x

3/5x = 123

x = 123 x 5/3

x = 205

now you know the total number of students ... and we already saw that 2/5th of all students were boys ... so ...

2/5 x 205 = 82 <----- this is your answer

to check it .... 82boys + 123girls = 205 total
