Hello, Im looking into buying a new CPU dont know what way to go. I know I want an AMD with socket 939. My delmia is chooseing between the Athlon series or the Opteron series

I think you should use amds athlon 64 because opteron is specifically designed for servers, and athlon is meant for everyday use and gaming. Also the problem with opteron is that some are socket 940 and if you buy the wrong one that is going to suck. But other words there is preety much no differnce between them, except the ones i listed. But to me I would go with athlon 64.

Isn't the Opteron intended for servers? I'd probably go with an Athlon unless youre building a server.

if strict on money then decide on for : amd phenom 960t processor 7k am3/am3+ socket style motherboard 3k else decide on for intel i3 processor 7-10k lga 1155 socket style motherboard 3k corsair cx 430 PSU 2.8k (if at the same time with snap shots card) the ram reported is bodily effective

you have to get a cpu that will fit on your motherboard
