Yes, each motherboard has a limit to maximum RAM you can use. But generally, it is in the power of 2, i.e., 256MB or 512 MB or 1 GB and so on. So I find it strange that in your case is is supporting 384 MB and not 512 MB. There are two more things to consider. There is also a limit to maximum capacity of RAM chip motherboard can support. In you case, I think total limit is of 512 MB and individual RAM chip should be maximum 256 MB. So try using two 256 MB chips. Other thing to consider is the operating frequency. In your case, I think the frequency is 100/133 MHz. Check the frequency as well as type of RAM - your motherboard must be supporting SD and you may have used DDR-SD.
BIOS upgrades are available as exe files at official website of the motherboard manufacturer. It is very risky process and if computer gets hanged or restarted or shutdown for some reason, older models of motherboard get permanently damaged.

this is not so easy to accomplish...usually the only time you would need to mess with a BIOS upgrade is if you are upgrading processors....look on the motherboard for a name and some numbers...if you find the manufacturers logo then look next to it for a model number...then use these numbers on the website for the manufacturer and they will have all the BIOS upgrades available on the website..it usually requires you to download some files and then put them on a floppy or flash drive and then you need to follow some important instructions to make it happen......I personally think it is just a matter of not using the correct RAM.....the motherboard makers website would also tell you the correct speed and size of RAM for the board....every board has limitations and you need to be within what the specs are.... if you can find out the motherboards FSB (front side bus), then you know the speed of RAM to use.... good luck

Go to the manufacturers website & look up the specs for your pc(ie.mobo,cpu,etc.etc.) Check what kind & what amount of ram is suggested for your pc & make sure that you have the right ram. Also make sure the ram is placed in the slots properly.
Go to the download section find out if there are any flash bios available for your pc.follow the instructions .If you have any problems contact the cust.service department on the website..If you do not understand any of the instructions contact
them to walk you through the process.
Serial number is located in different places,it depends on the manufacturer.Good Luck.

first find out the memory limit for your board, a bios upgrade rarely has anyting to do with the memory. If you want to upgrade it then youhave to go to the support site for your motherboard, find a newer bios and download it and the flash program,
you have to boot with a boot floppy, and run the flash program and input the .bin or .rom file it will erase the old bios and write the new one, follow the directions carefully, if you mess it up, the board might be shot, make sure the ram is matching

you need to know the manufacturer part number and serial number as there are changes within a manufacturer run of boards. the manufacturer will usually have BIOS updates available for down on their site. depending on your system board it can only support what it is designed for many P3 systems only supported 384 mb, so even if you install 512 it will only see 384, most of that is a function of the chipset the motherboard has on it
