If her father just passed away a few days ago or something, you might want to postpone. At least wait a couple of weeks until all the services are over and she's had a little time to recover. But don't cancel altogether, as I'm sure a party like that could really raise her spirits and she probably needs it! Maybe wait two weeks.

I would wait a few days, even a week. She may be overwhelmed right now and her emotions may be all over the place. Yes, I'd wait a week or so and see how she is doing. I'm sure it would cheer her up, but she probably needs a little space right now. I know I would feel that way.

trust me i had a friend whos dog died a day before we were going to give another friend a surprise party and she almost didn't go, but we told her she needed to get out of the house and just have fun and if she really didn't want to have fun we were all girls we could all cry together. but she had fun and she did not regret going.

The party could be a big help. She could be feeling very much alone right now.
