I was just watching about driver, army and bullet ants on Discovery Channel last week. Let's see. Army- Central to South America, Driver- Africa, those are the ones with the large pinching mouthparts. The bullet ant is the one that people have the allergic reaction to. Isn't that one from New Guinea? I remember watching how they caught them with a car vac to get venom and how they collected venom and then placed them back in the colony.

Atlantic coast of South and Central America, including Costa Rica. I have heard that being stung by one Bullet Ant feels like being shot by a bullet, hence it's name, but four stings is often enough to kill a human being. They are social insects and there are thousands to a colony, but fortunately not 10 to 20 million like the driver ants of Africa.
