I had to wait a couple of years to save up some money so I'll be 2 years older than most of the freshmen ther. It's in the town I live in, so I won't have to live in the dorms. Can anyone tell me something they learned that they wish they had known that first year of school? I am kind of scared to start, 'cause this is a whole new experience! Thanks for your help!

I learned that not only is everyone in college looking for sex, most will have it with YOU. All you have to do is ask (and buy drinks!).

I lived in the dorms this past year cause my parents live 15 hours away. I did notice that the people that lived off campus seemed to not be enjoying college as much. I would suggest that you hang out on campus a bit. Even if it's just to eat lunch and hang out with a friend there once or twice a week. Find out what's going on around campus and go to a game here or there or show up for a picnic. It'll make your college experience more enjoyable and not just school "work." Don't be too worried, especially about your age. Trust me I know how it is to be years apart from the majority in your grade. Age really means nothing in college. There are 80 year olds that go to college to get their BA.
Have fun, study when needed, and enjoy
Congrats on going

yea sure.
College is very free. First of all, you get to choose what you want to study, and you also get to choose whether or not you want to go to class and learn for any given day. They dont care if your not in class because you are paying for your own education, and its a hell of a lot of money too. During my first year I was kind of scared to meet people because I didnt know what they would think of me. But after a while, you start to realize that people dont care about what you've done in the past or what problems you used to have. College is a place to let yourself go and try new things that you wouldn't have tried at home. You start off with a clean slate, and you have to build from there.
Good luck to ya.
Peace.

dont go party when you should be studying. if your professor says to read, READ...they mean it. do all of your homework. the library is there to use, USE IT! teachers have office hours for a reason, they love when students come and visit them with questions on assignments or just about the class in general. dont overload yourself. your first semester i would take somewhere between 12 and 15 hours. figure out where your classes are going to be ahead of time. dont be late to class, it's disrespectful towards the teacher and some teachers will even lock the door. dont skip class! its so temptin and sometimes i do it, but dont do it! college is not as hard as your high school teacher made it out to be. join something, some sort of organization...its good. try not to have any 8 am classes and try not to have any friday classes. coffee is your friend. dont put off papers til the last minute. and just have fun!

Well, my first year I learned how to make a beer bong using some cheap supplies you can pick up from a hardware store.. I thought this was very helpful.
