Jesus told the woman at the well that God seeks people who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, not in any physical form, which would be idolatry.

None of the evangelists describe Jesus physically because they wrothe their gospels at least 35-40 year after Jesus had died. Most of the stories they tell were passed down orally.
Also, the image that we associate with Jesus today is completely false. Jesus was not a tall, white man with long hair. He was a darked-skinned middle eastern looking man, and he was probably not poor.

In Revelation, John describes the Son of God..but this is after Jesus has already returned to his Father.
None of the apostles actually describe Jesus because many people would get so hung up on what he looked like, that they would forget what Jesus stood for.
In other words, they would worship the image of Christ rather than the Father.
What does it really matter anyway?

We know what Jesus Christ looked like physically, from an imprint on the Holy Shroud. This was the burial cloth, which Jesus was wrap ed in after his crucifixion. Some Historians have proclaimed it as a hoax, a fraud. If it was a painting as some say, then the artist had a very good idea of what Jesus looked liked. It showed a man of very majestic mien, tall, beautifully made .

Here's about all the Bible says about how Jesus looked.
Who has believed what they heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:1-6
I think the Bible doesn't describe Jesus for the same reason it doesn't disclose what the Apostle Paul's thorn in the flesh was. People would lose their focus on the message and instead be tempted to make comparisons between themselves and Jesus or Paul and the people around them.

No, but the appearance of Jesus wasn't the important thing. There aren't many people in the Bible that have descriptions of their physical appearances.

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions [see How Did Jesus Christ Die?], He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:2-5)
