Harriet the Galapagos tortoise is the oldest living turtle at an estimated age of 175 years old. She lives at Australia Zoo (owned by Steve Irwin, Croc Hunter).
We don't have accurate records, since we don't live that long. So, it is mostly estimates and family pets that get aged. Harriet, however, had her DNA tested and compared to other tortoises. Through analysis and estimating, her age was established at about 175 years old.
Most turtles you find in the US will live for 20-40 years. Box turtles and land tortoises live longer.
