No, the actual "bending" is not possible. However, each region's technique for creating their "bending" is based on particular martial art techniques of certian regions of China.
From Wikipedia:The fighting choreography draws from martial arts films, and the fighting styles and weaponry are based upon Chinese martial arts, with each bending art corresponding to a certain real-world style. The creators use Tai Chi for waterbending, Hung Gar for earthbending, Northern Shaolin for firebending, and Ba Gua for airbending.

If you believe in the paranormal, the answer would probalby be yes for you. Air bending would be a very specific and advanced form of telekenesis. Fire-starters are said to exist that can create and/or control fires to some extent. Earth bending would also probably be a form of telekenesis, and water bending? well didn't Moses supposedly part the Red Sea?

the martial arts used in avatar: the last airbender, are based off of a real form of martial arts used in china. they incorporate it into the TV show

i think they based it off of styles of martial arts that we don't hear a lot about. i read that somewhere.
