One trick that a writer I know does is make himself write whatever garbage comes into his head for twenty minutes. An introduction to a dystopian story about about an aquarium run by some enigmatic entity which communicates his/her/its arbitrary wishes to its employees by telegram? Okay. A short story about how a penguin decided to become a rock star? Sure. A story fragment about the kidnapping of a detective's wife, wherein that wife is a gigantic quantity of rutabagas? Absolutely. Like everyone else said, the trick is to get up momentum, and by writing absolute tripe, _you're writing_.

put yourself on a serious time constraint, like in school. Say: I am going to have five pages written by next weekend. The biggest thing is to not allow it to intimidate you. sit down and start writing about something. You don't need a plotline, just start developing characters, settings...dialogues, situations. base these things on those you already know. it will become fun, and four and a half of those pages might be total junk, but you could get that one good idea...or PART of an idea. it'll come to you.
good luck

Practice your writing on here! By the time you answer a few dozen questions, you'll be back up to speed in no time at all. No matter what subject you want to write about, you're sure to find someone on here asking about it. Delve into the subject matter; sink your teeth into it; expound on the trivial and mundane; explore the redundant and inform the uninformed....share your wisdom with the masses and create masterpieces for all the world to see, read and share!

Just think of 3 good things that have happened to you in the past few days (say, a week). Write them down. If you feel like, write why they have been so special. You will definitely feel better and will slowly be able to get back to writing.

i write alot of poetry, but it usually only when im pissed off or hurt, and then i start actual writing from there. Maybe you can just think about one certain thing that happened how you felt about it, and maybe go from there, depending on what type of style you normally write in, but maybe you can evolve it into your story

When the spirit strikes you, drop whatever you're doing and start writing! Trust me, you won't be able to remember that brilliant idea for later.
