Chocolate chip cookies. The story goes that a lady at the Tollhouse resturant a hundred years ago was making chocolate flavored cookies with regular cookie dough and melted chocolate, but the dough was too cold and the chocolate hardened into little chunks. She made them anyway and they became a hit. Of course, to this day Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies are famous for that very reason.

the glue on the back of sticky notes. a scientist at 3M was looking to discover a new super-adhesive, but made this stuff instead. he was going to throw it out, but everyone else in the office noticed it was good to put on the back of paper to write notes on and leave on people's doors.

Apparently there was a fair of some sort and the guy selling ice cream was next to the vendor selling waffles. When the ice cream man ran out of bowls, he bought waffles, folded them, and used them to hold the ice cream! Ingenious...
