I saw an episode of Sesame Street where they told you how to get rid of hiccups. It has worked for 20 years for me. Put your fingers in your ears while drinking water. It is best if you use a straw. I'm pretty good at using water bottles. You will get a few looks that way though.

Sometimes when I get hiccups I swallow a few big gulps of air and then force myself to belch several times to purge the stomach and clear out all the little gas bubbles. I know it's gross but it works for me. Just be sure to find a private place so you don't have to feel embarassed.

If you have severe hiccups that last for days at a time without relief there is a drug called Thorazine that works. It is actually an anti-psychotic medication available by prescription only. It has a lot of bad side effects so it is only used for hiccups in extremely severe cases. If your hiccups are so bad that you can't sleep night after night then you might consider asking your doctor about it.

Ahh I hate the hiccups..

You can try doing any of these things:

1. Hold your breath for 30 seconds
2. Swallow 1 tbs. sugar dry
3. Eat a piece of dry bread slowly
4. Gargle with water

I hope you get rid of your hiccups :)

One way that always has worked for me is to plug both your ears and your nose. Once you have done this drink a glass of water. The hiccups will then be gone. I know it is a little awkward, but it definitely works.

BOO!

Just kidding. Drink a glass of water without taking a breath until you start to feel like you're going to pass out if you hold you breath any longer. That's the only way I know, but it works every time. Or if you don't have water, just holding your breath sometimes works, but not as well.

It's all in the mind. Get your mind off of it. When my kids have hiccups, I ask them why they stepped on the rabbit. They get to thinking about how crazy I am & forget about the hiccups.
