if you want cheapest while still at a casino, try downtown casinos or Sam's town. If you want cheapest on strip, try Excalibur or Circus Circus.

The farther you are from the strip the cheaper.
There are "cheap" hotels but some are very disgusting. I would go to www.tripadvisor.com and see which are the icky ones.

I went on hotwire.com and got a great deal. It was 1 block from the strip and there was a shuttle service TO the strip but not back to the hotel.

I've stayed at the Orleans and its very nice and they have shuttles to/from the strip.

Downtown has a lot of nice hotels, inexpensive, but away from the action. If you have a car, and don't mind driving to the strip, go for it! Plus there's a bus that takes you from downtown to the strip for I think 25 cents.

Several Buget Suites of America in and around the strip. 3 of them west of the strip, between the Wild Wild West and the Orleans. And 1 just NW of Desert Inn Rd and the strip. All are low price and still nice to stay in 1 day or more.

Circus Circus is reasonable and the rooms are very nice. It's not on the main strip, but after all those Vegas buffets, you can use the exercise from walking

Palace Station, Circus Circus, Riviera, Shara, Stratosphere, Excalibur, Stardust.

(There are cheaper places, but the ones I listed are in pretty good locations (well maybe not Stratosphere or Palace Station), and have good rooms. I wouldn't stay in the really cheap places or in downtown - the ones I listed are the best affordable hotels.)
