As you've probably guessed from some of the other answers, Spartacus is not a what but a who. Here's part of what Wikipedia has to say:
This article refers to the Roman slave who staged a rebellion against his masters. For other uses see Spartacus (disambiguation).
Spartacus, who was believed to be a Thracian (born in what is now Sandanski in present-day Bulgaria), was enslaved by the Romans and led a large slave uprising in modern-day Italy during the period 73 BC to 71 BC. His army of escaped gladiators and slaves defeated many Roman legions in several engagements. This conflict is known as the Third Servile War or the Gladiator War and is one of the three slave rebellions of ancient Rome.

Spartacus is a brave gladiator who lived as a slave within the Roman empire during the period between 120 to 60 BC. He loved a free woman and struggled all his life to free all the slaves that were enslaved by the Roman empire. He formed an army and fought against the Roman, but he lost the war and was caught and by the Romans who crucified him at the gate of Rome about 70 or 60 years BC. He saw his newly born son as a free human while being carried away from Rome by his mother or Sartacus' wife just few moments before he died on the cross.
