Correct ... there were already lots of people in North America when Columbus got here, including the Inuit who probably crossed the Bering Sea from Asia on the ice bridge thousands of years before Columbus.

Nobody ever "discovered" anything, because the plants and other animals have been living here millions of years ago. But yeah, it is stupid to attribute the so-called discovery to Columbus when he only spread diseases and led to the annihilation of the Native Americans. But still, it's a day out of school and work.
