Go to your local humane society. Sometimes they require you be a minimum of 14 or 16. It probably depends on where you live. You can always start small by offering to walk or care for you neighbours' pets - their reference will help you when you get older and are looking for a volunteer position. Good luck.

I started working with wild animals at age 14. There is a way!

With any luck you will have an Explorer Post (Boy Scouts, open to both male & female) near by that is linked to the local zoo.

From here you can get your best experience and start making your connections for later.

If you don't have a post near by, contact your local zoo. Many have volunteer groups and some even support junior groups.

You won't be allowed to handle the dangerous animals for a while (insurance reasons), but with time, the day will come.

I started off working in the contact pen, not very exciting but learned a lot.
From there I became a docent.
As an adult I found my interests took me a different way for a living, but still consider wildlife to be a hobby. Today I travel the world, shoot pictures of animals (for fun).

You can't volunteer to be a Zoologist, but you can volunteer at a zoo or animal shelter. Look in the local phone book for possibilities. Beyond that, if you're interested in spending time with animals, volunteer to walk dogs for elderly people or housebound in your neighborhood.

You have to go to College for many years to be a zoologist. I suggest volunteering at your local zoo.

Probably too young for zoo volunteerism, but check with animal shelters and see if you can be useful there. Visit the local vets too. Good idea.
