I am trying to complete two pieces of coursework by monday and ive got so much to do. Everytime i get started i can only do at least 15min of work and i need to listen to music or search the net and im falling behind. Why am i easily distracted? ive tried stayin up late and having longer sleep but it changes nothing.

Please help! Thanks if you can xx

oh yeah, been there and done that! The best thing you can do is to eliminate those distractions:

1. Turn your computer OFF (unless your typing on it, then that work, in that case, don't turn the internet on)

2. Music is fine but maybe you could switch to some calm and relaxing tunes (because if you play music you really like you will just end up bopping to that instead, I know I do so it's best lay of the music that makes you want to dance!).

Try to make your approach to work more interesting, I don't know how you approach coursework but I know from my experience I found it easier to make a 'plan' of what I am going to include in my assignment (use colour pens to make it more vibrant and interesting to look at). Bullet point the things you want to include under different sub-headings, make a list of your sources you have used for your coursework, make a list of the sequence you in which you will raise the different points.

Do this 'plan' on plain white paper with the different colour pens, it will keep you AWAY from your PC and it's a good starting point before you drive straight in and attempt to write your work from cold.

When you have done this, you can then sit down and write your coursework up in its proper format, so you will then feel like you have been more constructive as you are pulling all the different elements of your plan together to conclude your work. This will then make it less monotonous.

Now I hope this makes sense! I also have a limited concentration capacity and I really found the above approach helped!

Good luck!

i dont know but i have the same problem when i am doing somethign i am not genuinely interested in.

The net is the worst distraction, cos you can log on intending to surf for 5 minutes and you can be on there for 5 hours!! My method of dealing with this was to prohibit using the internet until i have completely finished what i was working on.

If you can only concentrate for 15 mins at a time then do it in 15 min chunks then have a 5 minute breather and start again, go for a walk or have a coffee in the break to clear your head ready to start again.Good Luck

u may have to look at other things first and set ur mind free to work on this. Distractions first and then work. pile up all the distractions and throw down the bridge.

You need to concentrate on what you are doing at that particular time and forget the odd aspect of life.

The problem is you don't really want to do it. That's what always happens to me too, I'd rather write my novel, or clip my nails, or do anything than what i HAVE to do! Set aside some time and force yourself to do it!
